What’s more beautiful than the styling of the new Alfa Romeo 8C Spider? The 17 mile Drive in Monterey California along the gorgeous Highway 1. Yes, the scenery here is absolutely stunning, but I’m always in awe of the homes along the drive. (thx bodyvis)

BMW has been promoting their new GINA Light Visionary Model concept, which is essentially a modern car design which features a strong endoskeleton frame, wrapped in a durable but flexible fabric. Under the fabric, there are hydraulic actuators that allow the car to shift its shape. While the concept shows off some very cool, very flashy things, and while BMW promotes this as an early concept working prototype, I see this car as a huge leap forward for green transportation. One of our biggest issues with our current car designs is that they’re incredibly heavy due to the weight of the sheet metal. The more weight we can shed, the more optimized our power delivery can be. A car that is feather-weight due to the use of fabric instead of sheet-metal seems like a logical progression. Obviously, BMW has a long way to go to make sure it’s safe and stands up to the harshness of the road elements. Well, guys… what are you waiting for?


BMW GINA Light Visionary Model in motion

Meet the Fisker Karma. This is one of the more impressive new cars announced at the Detroit 08 Auto Show. According to this article, it features a 0-60 time of ~5.8 seconds and features an all-electric mode that boasts a range of about 50 miles. Impressive numbers… Not only does it have the numbers to back it up, it’s also stunningly beautiful and quite luxurious!

The trailer for the new Speed Racer film by the Wachowski Brothers is now online in HD format. Looking forward to seeing this on Apple’s Quicktime Trailers site. For now, here it is on AOL - check out the HD flavor… looks awesome!!!

While I’m still trying to warm up to the new hot-hatch bodystyle, the performance numbers for the new STi are outstanding! Here’s a roundup of reviews for the new STi, and here’s this year’s legendary shootout between the STi and the new EVO. I think the EVO looks a bit nicer, but those numbers on the STi are great.

The latest news about one of my favorite car companies, Tesla Motors, has taken a very disappointing turn for the worst. Martin Eberhard, the founder and original CEO of Tesla Motors, was fired by the executive staff on Friday. I met Martin at the Yahoo! Tesla Motors presentation and can vouch for the fact that as a car enthusiast, a leader and a savvy business-minded environmentalist, he’s a stand-up guy. In my opinion, this is not only terrible PR for Tesla, but can’t do much for the company’s talented employee’s morale either.

"The legend is real”. Or, at least that’s what is stated in the video. I found myself getting antsy towards the middle of this video. Sure, it’s fun to watch, like in a “wow, this is what it’s like to be in a sortof ‘affordable’ supercar, keeping up with or beating a Porsche 911 Turbo in a time attack” -kinda way. I think I was getting antsy because I still want to see it in person, sit in it… oh, heck, I want to drive the damn thing! I am really really excited about the new Skyline (I know, they dropped the ‘Skyline’ moniker, but I’m sure it will pick up that nickname)!

Also, this is a really great photo gallery of the GT-R at its reveal in Japan. Oddly enough, I’m actually digging the semi-pro autoblogger photos more than Nissan’s initial press photos.
